Saturday night at the B Loft in Atlanta, Georgia was an evening for fashion and networking. Claire Sulmers, fashion journalist and creator of the brand Fashion Bomb Daily, hosted her annual “Cocktails With Claire” event. The venue featured various local fashion vendors, finger foods from Celebrity Chef Mike Valli and Sulmers’ signature cocktails all night. At this year’s Cocktails with Claire, Sulmers wanted to incorporate vendors so that the attendees could shop as they networked.
Liberian Designer and owner of Suakoko Betty Boutique, Charlene Dunbar, said that she was honored to be a part of this event as a vendor for a woman who’s story inspired her.
“I think Claire represents a lot of what I aspire to be. I mean, she’s been on her hustle. I remember her story, she actually moved to Paris to work at Vogue and she worked under people who were really like less talented than her,” said Dunbar.
“So she’s somebody I really see as really paying her dues. Everything that she has right now she’s worked for,” Dunbar continued.
Like Dunbar, many of the attendees were inspired by Sulmers’ journey to success in the fashion industry. During the panel discussion that featured celebrity make up artist, photographers and stylist, Sulmers revealed that the journey had it’s hard times but it was worth it.
” I didn’t make any money when I first started writing. So, it really was a labor of love and a labor of passion. It’s something that I was consistent with, and even when I got discouraged I just kept going,” explained Sulmers.
She also gave advice to the attendees about their own journeys into their careers.
“Just keep going. Even if you’re not getting the response that you want, or even if you’re not working with the clients that you want. Just keep going and you’ll get there eventually,” said Sulmers.
